The programs and lay ministries of St. Mark’s are organized into seven major areas called Commissions. Each commission is divided into individual ministries with the majority of parishioners giving their time in one or more of these areas. Three additional groups represent and support parish administration and operations–Resource Committee, Facilities Committee, and Stewardship Committee.

The Commissions Council is comprised of the council chair, coordinator of lay ministries, senior warden, junior warden, parish administrator, commission heads, staff partners and clergy liaisons. The purpose of the Commissions Council is to provide collaboration and support among the commissions by coordinating the parish calendar and programs.

The commissions develop their individual budgets which are presented at Commissions Council and submitted to the Finance Committee of the Vestry for approval and incorporation into the overall church budget.

Working together, while advocating individual commissions, staff and lay ministry leaders can make mutual ministries stronger and continue the important work for the mission of St. Mark’s. The Vestry assumes overall responsibility for all commissions.

The lay ministries program focuses on helping parishioners to discern their gifts for ministry, match their gifts to the needs of the parish and community, train for service in the parish and community, and offer support and encourage joy in their ministries. All that we do for others, wherever we are, is ministry to the glory of God.
